How to choose shoes for work in the laboratory

Materials for shoes are usually selected according to the potential mobility and wishes of its future owner. A particularly thorough approach is used in the production of items for medical personnel, who can spend up to 12 or more hours a day on their feet. This is an important component of a doctor's work, because it directly affects his health and work productivity.

Why wearing comfortable medical shoes is not a fad, but a necessity

Doctors have several reasons to use special shoes at work.

1. Excessive load on the legs. Our foot is an extremely complex structure that includes:

  • 26 bones
  • 34 joints
  • 22 muscles
  • more than 200 ligaments and cartilaginous joints.

Uneven loading and long-term stay "on your feet" leads to overstrain and accelerated degradation of all the listed components.

2. Profile diseases. Incorrectly selected medical shoes can cause a large number of diseases, among them:

  • flatfoot
  • varicose veins
  • corns
  • fungal infections between the fingers
  • pains in calves and joints
  • hernias
  • myalgia
  • deterioration of blood circulation, etc.

Basic requirements for medical footwear when working in laboratories and surgery

To work in such specific places, the footwear of a medical worker must meet two requirements.

1. Convenience and ergonomics:

  • reliable fixation of the foot
  • ideal orthopedic shape of the inner part
  • lightness
  • ventilation of the skin
  • moisture removal
  • elastic orthopedic insole.

2. Perfect sole:

  • maximally elastic
  • soft
  • not sensitive to moisture and aggressive liquids
  • with anti-slip effect
  • with a heel height of no more than 3 cm for men and 4 cm for women.

Additional requirements according to the temperature and humidity in the room

When working in surgical departments and laboratories, additional requirements for medical footwear for medical personnel are:

1. Antibacterial effect.

When the feet are in a static position, up to 2-2.5 ml of sweat moisture accumulates on the lower part of the sole for every hour of work. It is a favorable environment for the reproduction of bacteria, which should be avoided.

This is achieved by:

  • using additional antibacterial insoles from several moisture-absorbing layers
  • perforated surface of medical shoes (the diameter of each microhole is 1.5-2 mm, the distance between them is 5-6 mm).

2. Improved support characteristics.

Include:

  • maximally elastic support of the plantar part of the feet
  • orthopedic construction of the sole, which evenly distributes pressure
  • side panels that prevent accidental movements of the foot in the transverse plane
  • additional support in the area of greatest load.

These are the products offered by the "People in White" brand.
